Greater Milwaukee Area Chapter of Critical Care Nurses AACN-GMAC

Words from Chris Schulman, AACN President

Posted almost 8 years ago by Jessica Panfil

"A good nurse is a paranoid nurse, constantly on the alert to catch a change in patient status or perpetually anticipating the worst possible thing that can happen to their patient. These activities keep a nurse from being complacent and, hopefully, go a long way toward preventing those dreaded 'clinical surprises.' "

I like the word vigilant in place of paranoid. "Paranoid" sounds out of control almost psychiatrically unstable. As a good nurse I am not paranoid.
