From AACN re: Phishing Emails.........FYI
Posted about 8 years ago by Jessica Panfil
Dear GMAC Members,
Please, be aware of the following.........
Recently, AACN chapters in several states have received phishing emails from scammers instructing them to send checks in various amounts. The emails appear to be from your chapter president, but the sender’s address is not the president’s.
If you are receiving phishing emails, please do the following:
- Report it to your email provider (Outlook, Gmail, etc.).
- Report it to the Federal Trade Commission at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0003-phishing.
- Report it to the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (U.S. Department of Homeland Security) at https://www.us-cert.gov/report-phishing.
Following are a few of the major email providers and their respective links to report phishing:
- Gmail: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/8253?hl=en.
- Microsoft Outlook: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/safety/online-privacy/phishing-scams.aspx.
- Yahoo!: https://safety.yahoo.com/Security/IVE-BEEN-PHISHED.html.
AACN cannot assist you in these instances because the scammers are emailing directly to personal email addresses, not the chapter email address.
Please be careful with email requests for money, and remember the two-check-signer requirement for the chapter president and treasurer. If your chapter has checks pre-signed by the president and/or treasurer, please tear those up now. Checks should only be signed once the backup documentation for all expenditures has been reviewed and confirmed by both check signers.
This information is also posted on the AACN website under Chapter Announcements.
